in the gutter of life.

see the stars
I situate my work as a therapist in this recognition that I'm on the same level as you. No I-have-this-figured-out, look-how-wise-I-am. No dishing out tidbits from a rarified state.
I mean, I have some of this figured out.
You have some of this figured out, too. And then you forget it. And so you come here to remember it, and add to it, and I’m here to help with that.
I entered the field of psychotherapy with the understanding that my role was to be of benefit to whoever sat in front of me. The task of a therapist was to be diversified, flexible, open, curious,in order to meet a wide variety of people and challenges.
This happily aligned with me, since I’m an inherently curious person who’s dipped into a lot of stuff over the years. Consider a spectrum with Specialist at one end, Polymath at the other: I’m somewhere right of center, not quite a polymath, but definitely in the realm of the Jack of All Trades.
So, yeah: I’m good at meeting people in most experiences, understanding the language of their world, discovering through-lines, and helping them discover new understandings.
Approach
Theoretical Orientations
Like a lot of therapists, my theoretical orientation / philosophical framework is integrative — neither purely eclectic, nor locked into a single model’s understanding of the human experience. I select from multiple frameworks based on what serves you, the person in front of me, while holding some core commitments.
I draw from humanistic, cognitive-behavioral, neurobiological, and relational lenses, paying attention to family dynamics as well as larger societal forces like history, culture, and power. I honor unconscious processes and any spiritual experiences you may bring to the work, without applying my own interpretive frame to them. I recognize the nervous system and trauma and how those factor into our psyche.
I tend to be analytical — good at breaking things down and looking at them from different angles until we find the one that resonates with you.
Ultimately, I have a practical bent. Insight matters, but what happens with it matters more. I care about how our work together translates into your everyday life — practicing new awareness, trying out new responses, and finding what actually works for you in the world.
